Fraction Worksheet Generator
Print a fresh fraction worksheet in seconds. Pick the skill, the difficulty, and how many problems, and get a matching answer key in simplest form.
Fractions take many short rounds of practice on one skill at a time, and a student who has already seen the sheet is practicing memory, not fractions. Choose a skill, press New problems for a different set, and print. Every set has a number, so you can reprint the same sheet or its key later.
How to sequence fraction practice
- A workable order: equivalent fractions, simplifying, comparing, converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers, adding and subtracting with the same denominator, then different denominators, then multiplying, then dividing.
- One skill per sheet until it is solid. Move on when a student gets about 9 out of 10 right and can say why each step works. Then use the mixed review sheet, which makes them choose the method as well as carry it out.
- Equivalent fractions come first for a reason. A student who can’t fill in 2/5 = ?/15 will not manage a common denominator. If different-denominator sheets go badly, drop back to that skill.
- Watch for the classic error of adding tops and bottoms (1/2 + 1/3 = 2/5). Have the student check with an estimate: is the answer bigger than one half?
- Subtraction problems never go negative, so these sheets are safe for grades that haven’t met negative numbers.
- Answers in the key are in simplest form, with anything over 1 written as a mixed number. Decide ahead of time whether you will accept an unsimplified answer, and tell the student.
- Fewer problems, more space. The 10 and 12 problem sheets leave room to show work, which matters most for different denominators.
Everything runs in your browser. Your settings are saved on this device. To reprint a sheet later, type its set number in the Set # box with the same skill, difficulty, and problem count.
